Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's comments on ChickFight II--
"Last night I attended the eight-woman Chickfight tournament held at the APW Garage in Hayward. Even though I watch tapes from Japan all the time (although having just gotten tapes of the final AJW and Gaea shows this week, it hit me how much that era is almost over), it's been so long since I've seen a series of matches live with women's wrestling displayed as athletics rather than a T&A show that it was like a time warp. Nothing against some of the good workers in WWE like Trish Stratus or Victoria, but even as they wrestle, often well, the primary lure it's portrayed and sold at is "watching hot women fight" as opposed to athletic women who happen to be attractive and fit. The highlight was seeing Mariko Yoshida vs. Princesa Sugeith in a 20:00 really good mat based match display ability. These women, particularly Yoshida, are so skilled at what they do but the market for it is drying up. The finals of the tournament are in King City, CA, at the Fairgrounds with Yoshida vs. Melissa.
Luscious, from Toronto and a trainee of Joe E. Legend, may have a WWE future, as she's got the look they desire. She's inexperienced, but has some fire and is a hell of an athlete. She's a long way from ready, but you can see some natural ability. Kimura is a trainee of Yoshida (and Melissa early in her career also trained under Yoshida in Japan) and showed poise out there. There were maybe 75 people there for a free show (with donation of canned goods), but the main event was a lot more professional than you'll see on most indie events."
