IWA Mid South dove into their archives and pulled out this special flashback match from back in 2002 between Chris Hero and the hardcore mad man himself, Ian Rotten. This was a particularly special match because of the small crowd size. Before the match began Ian got on the microphone and talked about no matter the size of the crowd, the wrestlers would always put all of their energy and effort into their matches.
At this time, Rotten and Hero had been working as a tag-team at recent shows, but tonight it was just about wrestling the best match possible for the small, yet passionate and supportive crowd. In the early minutes of the match the two exchanged holds and submissions. Rotten would have Hero in an arm lock, then Hero would reverse the momentum and get Rotten in a hold. Eventually the two met in a challenge of strength, which soon turned into both nailing each other with some hard head butts.
Later in the match, Rotten began to go to work on Hero’s knee and leg, bending it and twisting it in ways it’s not supposed to. You could see Hero’s noticeable limp for the rest of the match because of it. This was a great match that proves to all the doubters and naysayers that Ian Rotten can wrestle an actual wrestling match and isn’t just about being hardcore. This is was most wrestling matches should be like.
